Malibu Boats, a US-based small cap recreational powerboats company is being punished hard by the markets due to growing pessimism on the economy. After all, recreational powerboats are seen as the ultimate discretionary purchase - things that consumers are first to cut in face of economic tightening. However, at Skeptivest, we maintain a contrarian perspective. There might be more that meets the eye - (i) the waves (i.e. economic downturn) might be calmer than you think and (ii) that Malibu Boats has a sturdier hull (able to weather downturns) than what the Street gives it credit for.
